Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav announced at the World Economic Forum in Davos that India is set to roll out its first domestically produced semiconductor chip soon in 2025 by itself. This milestone is part of the nation’s broader initiative to establish a robust semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem. The government has initiated the construction of five semiconductor fabrication units, with significant investments and collaborations, including Tata Electronics’ partnership with Taiwan’s Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation to set up a facility in Dholera, Gujarat. These efforts aim to position India among the top five semiconductor manufacturing countries by 2029.
